The race is one day. The part that actually costs something is the training plan eating every week until November, and the people cheering only ever show up at the finish line. There is no scoreboard for the Tuesday runs, which is exactly the stretch where quitting happens.
So finishing a week does something now: a new duck with its own personality moves into her pond. By race day the pond is full and the ducks come to watch.
A web app with an illustrated pond, sixteen collectible ducks, and a weekly checklist that mirrors her real training plan. Race day flips the app into spectator mode: friends get a live tracking link and a Send a Quack box, and the app reads their messages aloud to her mid-race.
